First impressions are important, and the entryway for either a home or business is no exception. Designing this space with this consideration in mind is essential to all aspects of your project from paint color to lighting, décor, and flooring. A tile floor is a versatile option for an entryway as its aesthetic attributes should be welcoming, practical, and durable to last for many years.
If a décor refresh is your aim, your tile entryway should allow for easy cleaning, lasting beauty, and great versatility. There are many product options for a floor tile entryway, from porcelain to marble and more. Tile is best selected when you’ve considered many essential factors for specific materials: durability for the level of foot traffic, ease of maintenance, appearance preservation, and overall feel.
Tile Entryway for the Home
The interior design of a home should be based on the owner’s interests. There isn’t any one design template for any specific style, but simply an aesthetic that reflects yourself. When friends and family come to your home, the entryway is the first sense of your style they see. You’ll want to impress everyone with their first step on your entryway tile floor.
When you’re designing a residential space, there will be significantly less foot traffic than in a commercial space, and, given that, there may be more material options to be had. Marble is an elegant option for an entryway tile floor, though it does require more maintenance than some other tile options, like porcelain. This simply means that your marble tile needs to be sealed as a maintenance regimen, as it’s a porous stone, but the day-to-day care remains easy. With that said, marble tile can undoubtedly be used in a commercial setting as its elegance sometimes contributes to the overall aesthetic.

From all white to accents of grey and darker shades, marble makes for a beautiful statement. Thassos White and Bardiglio are two classic examples.
Thassos White is a white crystalline marble that has been used in buildings since ancient times. This marble is hand-selected and then cut to ensure only the purest white material is shipped. Bardiglio will have a mix of light and dark grey tones, along with some areas of white. Veining and color variations may suit a situation for appearance, but they can also mask any blemish or mess made before the floor is cleaned next.
Commercial Considerations
When you’re designing a business space, chances are you have a specific theme based around branding and feel—i.e., a spa vs. a tattoo shop vs. a hardware store. Each space will express a different ambiance, and rightfully so. Luckily, the material options you’ll have to create a perfect tile entryway are plentiful.

In a home, you may want a warmer, quainter atmosphere for your entryway. In a business, however, there may be a more expansive space to work with. Large format tile works well in large or small spaces, but this may be an excellent area to consider its use.
Unica and Futura are both porcelain tile offered in a larger format 24” x 48” size, that require minimal maintenance and optimal durability. Designed to look like stone, they’re available in a range of neutral colors to easily tailor the feel you desire for a tile entryway. Because of their neutrality, it’s easy to dress up or dress down these tile options. You can include décor or decorative tile from another series, or even mix in some mosaic accents from the same series to add uniqueness to your space.

To provide a different mood from a stone, or stone-look tile, the Aequa series emulates reclaimed wood, providing a feeling of warmth and comfort. The versatility of Aequa makes this an easy choice, be it in a home, a commercial setting, inside, or outside. There is truly a serene, relaxed feeling the design of wood provides, which makes it the perfect design idea to complete your entryway. It doesn’t have to end there: if your commercial setting needs some “dressing up” from stone, marble slabs can be used around the space as well. Bianco Carrara and Calacatta Gold are both white Italian marble slabs that can be used on interior walls and countertops to add that layer of elegance. Add either of these stunning slabs to a space to amplify luxury.
Accents
Accents aren’t limited to removable décor and furnishings like rugs, wall art, or table-top pieces like vases; tile can also fall into this category. Patterned tile adds color, effects, and charm.
The Cementine Posa series does just that—available in five unique designs, this series gives you the ability to add detail and color to any design. Though color is fun, sometimes the neutrality of black and white is preferred. Chymia series offers all black, all white, or a mix of both, but all boast textural detail, making for a visually enjoyable experience.
