If you are on a tight budget and still want a designer look for your tile backsplash, tile installation layout can be your best friend.  Case in point, here is an idea we found on a popular design site:

Create the Designer Look on a Tight Budget

A simple porcelain subway tile laid in a herringbone pattern makes a dramatic focal wall. This idea can be used as a backsplash, as in this image, but imagine it used elsewhere like on a floor, a bathroom shower surround or even on a countertop.

Laying tile on point rather than straight gives you a designer look. How else can you use a simple, inexpensive tile in an unusual way that will make a more dramatic presentation and give it a more sophisticated look? How about combining different sizes of the same tile to create a pattern?

If you fall in love with a natural stone, mosaic or glass tile that simply isn’t in your budget for the entire space? How about creating either a focal wall or even an inlay of that special tile and surround it with a coordinating porcelain?

These ideas may take more time and may involve cutting the tile. But if you have the time, it will make the tile look spectacular in your space. Start thinking outside the box for dramatic results. With a little planning you can achieve the designer look you want on a budget.
