Arizona Tile at the Dallas Mavericks Practice Facility

Arizona Tile loves being involved in any new build or remodeling project, whether it is residential or commercial, large-scale or small-scale. When a large-scale commercial project is completed, sharing it with past and future customers is exciting for everyone at Arizona Tile. Recently, the Dallas Mavericks landed themselves a beautiful new training facility. Owner Mark Cuban purchased an existing structure that he converted into a state-of-the-art training facility, plus much more, for his NBA team.

Arizona Tile was fortunate enough to be part of this project and to help create a one-of-a-kind home-away-from-home for the Dallas Mavericks to train, destress, relax, and hang out. High-quality purposely selected tile products go a long way in adding luxury to any space, and the Dallas Mavericks new practice facility was no exception to how they have perfected their trade.

Being an NBA player takes lots of skill but also requires a lot of hard work and practice. To embrace the talents of being a professional sports player, having a dignified practice facility can affect a teams’ performance and overall morale. Knowing the Mavericks needed a larger space to train in, and a space fully devoted to the team, Cuban purchased the 14-acre parcel that houses the training facility. Conveniently located, the practice facility sits less than a mile from the American Airlines Center where they play their home games.

The existing space had the versatility to be converted into a basketball players’ haven, but the real upgrades came more recently. Initially, the structure was converted into a training facility in three short months after being a 20-year-old vacant warehouse. Later, the grand-scale rehab began which is when Arizona Tile became part of the project. Most of the project required “soft” materials, like rubber flooring and carpet, to make for a cushioned under-foot surface and to keep from too much echoing in a space that has a heightened ceiling (for super tall basketball players!). Completed in early 2022 was the players’ lounge and conditioning/training area where Arizona Tile supplied two main products to create the perfect space for rejuvenation.

Ceramic and Porcelain Tile

Arizona Tile supplied the Dallas Mavericks with two materials for their practice facility design – ceramic tile and porcelain tile. The products are incredibly durable as flooring and wall material; they are color-permanent, abrasion resistant, and cannot be punctured. One of the most beneficial features of these materials is that they are incredibly easy to maintain: no waxing or buffing needed, just wipe clean with a sponge or gentle cleaner and the surface will look like new again. Both ceramic and porcelain tile provide lasting beauty that actually appreciates in value over time making them a valuable investment in any residential or commercial project.

Crafted in an infinite selection of colors, shapes, sizes, patterns, and textures, you will be sure to find the tile that best suits your design. Colors play a pivotal role in the overall scheme of your space, from light and bright colors that are uplifting and invigorating to dark and deep colors that can create somber or sophisticated moods. At the Mavericks practice facility, they chose a dark ceramic tile to fashion the walls and a neutral, warm, wood-grain porcelain tile for the floor – combined together they make for the ideal masculine sanctuary  for this NBA team.

The Look

Calming. Comforting. Strengthening. Black has a way to evoke these feelings and express a refined, sleek design. Throughout the showers and spa room at the Dallas Mavericks practice facility, the walls are fully fashioned in black, with some focal areas utilizing the Flash Graphite series from Arizona Tile. This ceramic tile has a gentle texture and soft glaze amongst a range of tonal varieties. Its glossy finish and hand-crafted texture add a dimensional appearance against the larger tile throughout the shower area and cold/hot tub room. Similar styles of porcelain and ceramic liners are available to use as accents or trim for any project.

The flooring that unifies this space is the More Wood series which is a porcelain product that is created to emulate natural wood. What’s great about porcelain is that it can handle wet areas, therefore allowing this to be used even as a shower floor. A seamless beauty can be created as this flooring could be run through any room, wet or dry, and even outside. When installed in a wet area (or outside), like at this new practice facility, the finish to use is the R-11  Anti-Slip Finish, as opposed to a matte finish. The Mavericks’ designers created a space that is comforting and calming, yet strong and masculine, where the players can recuperate after a game. The gentle warmth of the More Wood Noce porcelain that they used as flooring enhances those feelings and pairs well with the darkness within the space.

It takes a team to succeed in a sport, it takes a team to design, and it takes a team to supply a quality product. When you put all these teams together, beautiful things can be created.
