Northern California Remodeling on the Rise

The biggest trend for 2014 isn’t subway tile or glass mosaics, it’s remodeling! Perhaps this increase in remodeling is because home values have dropped, so more homeowners are staying put and want to make their homes more comfortable. Maybe some homeowners want to invest in their current real estate to increase the value of their home. Or maybe shows like “Love It or List It” are inspiring people to create the home that they really want. Whatever the reason, remodeling is the trend for 2014.

According to the National Association of Home Builders the Remodeling Market Index is currently at an all time high[1]. In other words, more people are remodeling their current homes rather than selling. It seems that Post-recession homeowners are finally loosening the grip on their wallets.

Northern California is no different from the rest of the nation. A study done in the Fall of 2013 [2]says that 39% of Northern California residents are excited to start remodel projects which is up from 28% in 2010. Interestingly enough, the same study said that 46% were planning to DIY some of that same remodel.

“The San Joaquin Valley economy, which has improved over the past year to the point where it has nearly reached pre-recession levels, will continue to improve in 2014 and 2015, according to a report from Gökçe Soydemir, the Foster Farms endowed professor of business economics at California State University, Stanislaus.”[3]
