On February 20, 2013, the Texas Association of Builders hosted Rally Day in Austin, Texas. Rally Day brings together state legislators and industry leaders to discuss issues that face the residential construction industry. This year, Kathie Ahrens, an Arizona Tile Outside Sales Representative from our Dallas location, attended the event as a member of the Dallas Builders Association.
Rally Day is a biennial event providing association members the opportunity to build relationships with elected officials while showing their support of the building industry. It is an important day for industry professionals to have their voices heard by the people who pass state legislation. With Texas’ population expected to nearly double by the year 2030, residential home building will be impacted greatly.
Kathie had the chance to meet Stefani Carter, a Texas State representative, representing the 102nd district which includes parts of Dallas and the Northern Dallas County suburbs of Garland and Richardson.
Kathie joined builders, remodelers, and associate members at the State Capital to support the issues that will affect the future of residential building in Texas including:
- Securing funding to implement the state water plan
- Vocational and technical education, to meet the demands for a skilled workforce
- Increasing funding for transportation infrastructure
- The protection of property rights
- Business taxes and fees
- Builder representation on TDLR Advisory Boards
- Consumer choice for residential fire sprinklers
